Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi): Wi-Fi is the popular term for a high-frequency
wireless local area network and the consumer-friendly name for the 802.11b
engineering standard. Wi-Fi technology is rapidly gaining acceptance as an
alternative to a wired local area network (LAN). WIFI is now being increasingly
used for more services such as internet accessibility, gaming, connectivity of
televisions, digital cameras and DVDs’, as well as VoIP phone access. This is
only the beginning with many more functions being developed on the way.
WIFI also allows home and office users to create wireless local networks, which
connect two or more computers to each other to benefit from a faster Internet
connection. This way there is no more poking holes in walls or tripping over
bulky Ethernet cables.
WIFI connectivity can range from single room coverage to many kilometers of
overlapping hotspots.
Mobinil is offering Wi-Fi wireless Broadband Internet service to all customers
delivered via the LINKdotNET network. This service is offered free of charge
for the duration of the summer and can be accessed from approximately 200
hotspot locations in Cairo, Alexandria, El Gouna, Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh.
